LOWELL — Outscored, 21-10, in the third quarter of a ferocious, up-tempo Division 4 state final, the Georgetown boys’ basketball team was in need of a spark. Almost as soon as the Royals broke huddle to play the final eight minutes, one player stepped forward.

Both No. 5 Monument Mountain and No. 6 Georgetown have battled through adversity to reach this moment. The Spartans defied the odds, toppling the No. 1 team, Albert D. Holland, in Division 4 earlier this week in a thrilling upset.

Thanks to one junior’s hot shooting from downtown and some timely defense down the stretch as a team, Georgetown won its first state title at Tsongas Center on Saturday afternoon. No. 6

Monument Mountain's shooting slump came at the worst possible time and the Spartans fell to Georgetown in the MIAA Division IV State Championship on Saturday in Lowell.

Matt Torgensen ('22) had a profound impact on changing the culture. His passing in July, along with the father of head coach Josh Keilty in October, has reinforced the Royals' commitment, and perseverance.
