General Motors is officially approved to be an engine supplier in Formula 1. But the company’s power units won’t be in an F1 race for quite some time. The FIA announced Wednesday that GM’s bid to provide power to the new Cadillac team had gotten the go-ahead.

General Motors will become an official Formula One power unit supplier in 2029, the sport's world governing body said on Wednesday.

The target is a year later than initially planned, so GM's Cadillac F1 team will run with Ferrari engines for three years, rather than two.
