Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton caught up with us one-on-one about the Stetson Bennett comparisons surrounding him.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Tuesday that Gunner Stockton, set to take over as QB, is "extremely respected by his teammates."

Atlanta – Kirby Smart hasn’t officially named Gunner Stockton starting quarterback for the upcoming season at Georgia, but it doesn’t matter. Since stepping foot on campus, Stockton has prepared like the job is going to be his. Smart said Stockton's commitment to preparation is one of the things he admires most.

Manning, now the Longhorns’ starter, enters the 2025 season with major expectations. After backing up Quinn Ewers last year, the sophomore has earned the spotlight. Head coach Steve Sarkisian named him QB1 after Ewers declared for the NFL draft.

Simpson and Stockton are expected to face off Sept. 27 when Alabama travels to Athens, Georgia to play the Bulldogs. Neither quarterback started in the game a season ago that Alabama won at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Jalen Milroe and Carson Beck played for their respective teams in that matchup.

Despite representing UGA at SEC Media Days, Gunner Stockton hasn’t been named the Bulldogs’ starting QB. The battle between him and Ryan Puglisi continues.
