TOKYO, July 30 (Reuters) - Following are companies that have suspended operations in Japan's Kumamoto and nearby prefectures after a magnitude 7.1 quake hit the area on Tuesday, killing at least 17 people.
The centuries-old castle, one of the country’s best-known, was also affected by the region’s 2016 earthquakes.
KUMAMOTO: The Kumamoto prefectural disaster response headquarters said Friday one more death had been confirmed following Tuesday's powerful earthquake, bringing the death toll to 35, including one whose connection to the disaster is under investigation.
Japan, like France, is known as a culinary country. But even within Japan, Kumamoto is definitely a foodie’s city. Locals take great, and justifiable, pride in the deliciousness of the fare available in the city, even down to the tap water, which is derived from natural groundwater.
Japan’s sporting world has mobilized to support earthquake-hit Kumamoto, with leagues, clubs and players contributing to relief and encouraging donations for those affected.
