The Red Sox third baseman went 1 for 4 with a double off the Green Monster in the seventh inning in Boston’s 5-4 comeback win over the Rays.
The Red Sox signed Alex Bregman to a three year, $120MM contract this offseason. In reality, it's a series of one year deals at $40MM per year. Bregman has the opportunity to opt out at the end of this season and it's highly likely that he will. That is, unless he signs an extension with the Red Sox. Here's what Bowden wrote:
The Red Sox have a big trade deadline ahead of them with a lot of decisions to make — especially after moving back into a wild card spot after winning their last six games. So, what might their priority be come July 31?
Six relievers followed injured Red Sox starter Hunter Dobbins, who came off the IL before the game only to leave in the second inning. Bregman was 1 for 4 with a double in his first game back from a quad injury.
Alex Bregman has fit in seamlessly with the Red Sox. But the third baseman has the option to opt out of his contract after this season and test free agency.
