Listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds, Matthews plays his high school football for Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina. The 247Sports Composite tabbed him as a four-star prospect, ranking him as the No. 57 overall recruit in the cycle, the No. 6 corner and the No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina.

Matthews is a two-sport star and a two-way player for Cornelius (N.C.) Hough, competing in track in addition to football, turning in a sub-23-second 200m as a sophomore. He’s also been productive on the gridiron after getting the call-up to varsity as a freshman, racking up 77 tackles and four interceptions in his three seasons.

The highest-ranked cornerback in North Carolina named his college Friday night. His finalists were South Carolina, Texas, Miami and Florida State.
