Alabama State football kept its SWAC title hopes alive for one last week with a dominant showing against Mississippi Valley State in the Port City Classic.

Future SEC players Zion Crumpton, CD Morgan, Corey Barber and EJ Crowell all had touchdowns as Alabama raced to a 40-10 victory at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of Southern Mississippi.

Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. is undefeated in the Port City Classic with a record of 2-0, and it's not a secret that the Hornets are the favorites in the 2025 Classic.

Even though Mississippi lost to Alabama, 40-10, in the MS/AL All-Star Game, local college signees stood out on both sides of the ball. This is the Magnolia State’s sixth straight loss to the neighbors to the east.

In a wild turn of events, JJ Bush returned a punt for a five-yard touchdown. The Team Mississippi punter mishandled the snap. While running toward the end zone, multiple Team Alabama defenders swarmed him.

Players from the game are headed to four of the 12 teams in the College Football Playoffs, including Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Alabama. The game will kick off at noon on Saturday and will be broadcast across the state on Alabama Public Television. Here are seven players to be on the lookout for during the matchup.

Alabama faces a tough stretch in the middle of October. The Crimson Tide will host Georgia on Oct. 10 before traveling to Knoxville for its annual "Third Saturday in October" date with Tennessee. Alabama will return home Oct. 24 for its first home date against Texas A&M since 2022.

The early signing period for college football between Dec. 3-5 added 13 new players for Alabama State football. Of the 13 signees, seven are from Alabama with the others coming from bordering states like Georgia and Mississippi.

Crimson Tide left tackle Kadyn Proctor is on the AP All-American Second Team, while safety Bray Hubbard made the Third Team.
