A rescue dog that has trekked alongside Buddhist monks for over 1,500 miles on a Walk for Peace is taking a break from the journey to undergo surgery.

The Walk for Peace comes to Rock Hill on Tuesday, as crowds prepare to greet a group of Buddhist monks that have become an internet sensation.

Aloka, whose name means “light,” was adopted by the monks at Fort Worth’s Huong Dao Temple during a previous visit to India.
