Melissa intensified into a hurricane on Saturday, Oct. 25, as it continued its slow slog across the Caribbean Sea.

Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensified from a Tropical Storm to a Category 4 hurricane in 24 hours, and is still undergoing rapid intensification.

Areas of Jamaica could “already be experiencing tropical storm force winds & heavy rains,” with conditions expected to “get much worse there through Monday and Tuesday,” the NHC said.
