What happenedThe Senate Thursday failed to pass competing plans to prevent a sharp rise in costs for people who get their health insurance through the Affordable Care Act when subsidies expire at the end of the year.
During his Dec. 3 confirmation hearing, Isaacman received strong bipartisan backing. Committee Chairman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ranking Member Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) both praised the nominee and expressed hope for confirmation before year's end.
If all four men are confirmed, two spots on the nine-member board will remain vacant. One remaining nominee for a spot on the TVA board, Lee Beaman, recently went before a Senate committee for a hearing at which he was grilled by Senate Democrats. One week after the hearing, a vote on his nomination was postponed.
