The Philadelphia 76ers will be without Joel Embiid for some time. He is dealing with swelling in his left knee, meaning the Sixers will be shorthanded in their frontcourt until he returns. If the Sixers intend to keep their playoff hopes,

“While the foot sprain has healed, Embiid experienced an increase in swelling in his left knee following the workout,” the Sixers said in a statement. “After consulting with team medical staff and external doctors, Embiid will receive treatment in the coming days to address the swelling.”

The former MVP remains a lightning rod for a franchise desperate for a title. Whether he can stay healthy enough to carry it there remains the question.
