Jets coach uses Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen as examples when discussing Justin Fields' slow release
Justin Fields' internal clock has become a timely topic of discussion again. The New York Jets quarterback has long been criticized for his propensity to hold onto the football too long at times, resulting in sacks and blown opportunities.
To be sure, Fields' numbers are pretty ugly. Heading into Week 7 he ranks 31st in the NFL in QBR (32.1). While he hasn't thrown an interception yet he only has 799 passing yards (29th) and just four touchdown passes (also 29th) to go with three rushing touchdowns.
Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner almost sounded frustrated at times by the Jets offense and quarterback Justin Fields.
Star receiver and Fields’ favorite target Garrett Wilson is doubtful due to a knee injury. The Jets’ other receivers, Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, rookie Arian Smith and Tyler Johnson, have 20 catches combined – 16 fewer than Wilson.
The New York Jets could be looking for a new QB next offseason, and they could get one near the top of the 2026 NFL draft.
