Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan is taking his band's classic album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness to the opera in celebration of its 30th anniversary. The Lyric Opera in the band's hometown of Chicago,

Pumpkins' lead singer Billy Corgan will be joined by Lyric's orchestra, chorus and as a group of operatically trained soloists for a "musical-dramatic experience” based on music from the band's famed album “Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness.

Smashing Pumpkins mastermind Billy Corgan has teamed up with Lyric Opera of Chicago to turn Smashing Pumpkins' decade-defining double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness into a whole opera.
