Tigers ace Tarik Skubal has won his second straight American League Cy Young Award, joining elite company after another spectacular season.

Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal won the 2025 AL Cy Young Award on Wednesday, becoming the first AL pitcher to repeat since 1999-2000.

Tigers ace Tarik Skubal won his second straight Cy Young Award on Wednesday, joining elite company after another spectacular season in which the lefthander helped propel Detroit to a playoff berth. The 28-year-old Skubal became the 12th player to win baseball’s top pitching honor in consecutive years,

The American League Cy Young award winner for 2025 is Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal.  Skubal, who turns 29 on Nov. 20, also won the award in 2024 and did so in unanimous fashion. This crowning makes Skubal the first repeat winner since Jacob deGrom of the Mets in 2018 and 2019.

Skubal received 26 first place votes. LHP Garrett Crochet of the Boston Red Sox finished in second place, with RHP Hunter Brown of the Houston Astros coming in third in the voting. In short, he was albsolutely dominant from start to finish.

Prior to Wednesday there had been eight total pitchers who had won back-to-back Cy Young Awards, four in both the American and National Leagues. Now there are nine, with the AL taking the edge over the NL with Skubal's name now etched in history.
