The group announced it would not submit its most recent album, ‘Arirang,’ for consideration a month after the Recording Academy introduced a new category for Asian pop.

It would have made them a lock for their first official win, but it turned into a reminder of the award show’s biggest problem.

BTS will not submit music for consideration at next year’s Grammy Awards, members of the K-pop supergroup announced Wednesday, a little over a month after the Recording Academy confirmed that the 2027 ceremony will include an Asian pop music performance category for the first time.

BTS has announced that it will not be submitting its new album Arirang for the Grammy Awards 2027 over the creation of new category for Asian languages. In the past, snubs and controversial submission and voting criteria of The Recording Academy have led to Grammys boycott by global artists.
