Nearly 70,000 fans braved almost freezing weather at Raymond James Stadium for Tampa Bay’s first outdoor NHL Stadium Series game.
Instead, Boston's parade to the penalty box continued before the Bruins eventually fell to the Bolts by a 6-5 shootout final. It wasn't so much the call itself that bothered the Bruins, but the lack of a decision until the Bruins had thought they won the contest.
The Bruins blew a 5-1 lead and fell to the Lightning on a chilly and breezy Sunday night at Raymond James Stadium. Jake Guentzel scored the deciding goal in the shootout to give the Lightning a 6-5 come-from-behind win. It was Tampa’s fifth straight goal after it trailed 5-1 early in the second period.
Fraser Minten, acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for January. This marks the first time a Boston Bruin has received the honor since Jeremy Swayman in March 2022.
The Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning meet Sunday in an outdoors game. Puck drop at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, is at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The team dressed in colonial garb, giving nods to both the New England region and their football-playing brethren.
The question, since the NHL announced it would be bringing the Stadium Series to Tampa, was: Can Tampa handle an outdoor game? As fans saw temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s, Tampa clearly knew the NHL needed hockey weather for Sunday’s game between the Lightning and Bruins at Raymond James Stadium.
