Ford Motor Co. is forecasting weaker earnings growth for this year and further losses in its electric vehicles business as it works to control costs.

Ford has been grappling with stubbornly high warranty expenses and sluggish cost-cutting efforts. In the July-September quarter, the company took $1billion (€960,000) in accounting charges to write down assets for a cancelled three-row electric SUV.

Ford managed to beat Wall Street’s expectations for the fourth quarter of 2024, posting $48.2 billion in revenue, up $2.2 billion year-over-year. Gains from its gas-powered vehicle sales helped offset net losses from an unprofitable EV business.

Ford’s Model e electric division has stacked up some staggering losses in recent years, recording a $5.1 billion shortfall in 2024. Unfortunately, the automaker said it expects to lose even more in 2025 as a challenging market and an unpredictable political landscape take their toll.
