The high-stakes stand-off between India and Pakistan seems to be de-escalating after the United States brokered an immediate ceasefire between the two nuclear powers, but their bad blood has only continued to boil.

People in Kashmir say they are relieved but uneasy after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire. The deal was intended to defuse the worst military confrontation between the two countries in decades.

Pakistani officials have said Saturday’s ceasefire with India reestablished deterrence. But New Delhi insists the rules of engagement have irrevocably changed.
