July 22 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Royals plan to promote Rich Hill from Triple-A, which will make the 45-year-old pitcher the oldest active player in MLB. Royals manager Matt Quatraro confirmed the move Monday night. Hill will start against the Chicago Cubs -- the team that drafted him in 2002 -- on Tuesday in Chicago.
Salvador Perez went yard twice last night as the Royals blitzed the Cubs in Game 1 of the series last night, 12-4. The veteran backstop now has four home runs in his last three games. Carson Kelly collected three hits in the loss for Chicago. Said loss has dropped the Cubs out of first place in the National League's Central division.
Hill, who pitched for the Dodgers from 2016-19, would become the oldest active pitcher in MLB when he appears in a game for the Royals. He turned 45 in March. More to come on this
The bearded left-hander is attempting to get back to MLB through the Kansas City Royals' organization. And on Friday for the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers, Keuchel was sharp. He went 4.1 innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out five.
