South Korea’s Supreme Court on May 1 overturned an appellate court’s acquittal of Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung in an election law violation case, sending the case back to the Seoul High Court for retrial.

South Korea ’s Supreme Court overturned on Thursday an earlier ruling that had cleared election front runner Lee Jae-myung of election law violation, throwing into doubt his eligibility to run for the presidency.

South Korea’s main liberal opposition party has tapped its former leader Lee Jae-myung as presidential candidate in the June 3 vote.
