Thousands of Shakira fans will descend on MetLife Stadium Thursday and Friday night but they won’t have mass transit to get there — even if NJ Transit doesn’t go on strike at midnight as planned. NJ Transit said on Monday that its rail and bus lines to MetLife Stadium will not be running during the two-day period.

Wages have been the main sticking point of the negotiations between the agency and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.

NJ Transit — the nation’s third largest transit system — operates buses and rail in the state, providing nearly 1 million weekday trips, including into New York City.

Hundreds of thousands of New Jersey commuters may be caught up in the state’s first transit strike in more than 40 years as soon as Friday morning.
