Setting up a showdown with the legislature, Gov. Ned Lamont announced Monday that he would veto $40 million in spending for special education and $2.8 million for non-profits who are threatened

After a round of back-and-forths between Gov. Ned Lamont and Democratic legislative leaders over how much more spending the state can afford, the governor said Monday afternoon that he will veto portions of two bills passed last week by the legislature.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont returned home on Monday, March 3, and vetoed a $40 million spending measure for special education initiatives in cities and towns across the state. Now, educators are urging lawmakers to override that decision.

Lamont said he still fully supports increasing funding for special education and pointed to the $54 million increase in his budget proposal.
