Baltic Germans (German: Deutsch-Balten or Deutschbalten, later Baltendeutsche) are ethnic German inhabitants of the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea, in what today are Estonia and Latvia. Since their resettlement in 1945 after the end of World War II, Baltic Germans have markedly declined as a geographically determined ethnic group in the region.

Estonia is a developed country with a high-income advanced economy and a member of the Eurozone. It is a democratic unitary parliamentary republic, administratively subdivided into 15 maakond (counties). With a population of 1.37 million, it is one of the least populous members of the European Union and NATO.

Thereafter, the respective embassies were re-opened in Bonn and Tallinn. In February 1999, Germany opened its new embassy building in Tallinn.
