Arachnocampa Luminosa, or glow worms, are worms that live on the ceiling and walls of New Zealand’s underground caves laying chandelier like webs and using bioluminescent chemicals in their stomach to attract prey! This was captured while on the ultimate tour with @downtoearth_waitomo I helped create and capture some parts of their beautiful cave system that had never been photographed before. Highly recommend! “Arachnocampa Luminosa” or Glow Worms are native to New Zealand and use Bioluminescence and lay silky strands to lure and trap bugs to eat! They are actually a fly larvae, but glow maggot just doesn’t hav the same ring as glow worm… they live in wet alcoves, caves, and jungles of New Zealand all over both the North and South Islands. Glow Worms go through a 9 month worm phase, 2 or so weeks as a pupae before they hatch, and they take form as flies with no mouths! They reproduce for 2-3 days and
