Researchers are using CRISPR gene-editing technology to target one of medicine’s biggest challenges: eliminating HIV DNA hiding inside human cells. Unlike current treatments that suppress the virus, CRISPR aims to cut HIV out of the genome itself, disabling its ability to replicate or return. In recent laboratory and animal trials, CRISPR tools were able to locate HIV’s genetic code, snip it out, and prevent infected cells from producing new virus particles. This marks one of the most promising
