Hope for orphaned Hippo Bumpy Two weeks ago, and just days old, Bumpy was trying to wake his mother, but to no avail. She had died, believed to have lost her life in a territorial fight, possibly defending her calf against an adult male hippo. KWS rescued her calf and brought him into our care, so that we might offer Bumpy a future after such a tragic ordeal. We couldn’t have hoped for him to settle any better.
