This is how deck stringers are installed in Florida. You can use either approved structural nails or special corrosion-resistant screws. The connectors themselves must also be corrosion-resistant. Interestingly, in Florida you’re not allowed to simply attach the rim board to the stringers using regular wood screws, even structural ones. In my opinion, that would be faster and easier.
