This radar mode helps show precipitation types based of their reflective nature. From this we can determine the dividing line between sleet and snow. The reds and purples are heavy snow, and the yellow areas are sleet, this boundary will wobble a bit a heavy snow will help keep the column cold enough for all snow, but as intensity relaxes sleet will mix in.
